Advantages and Disadvantages of Laser Hair Removal

People suffering from unwanted body hair often go for various hair removal treatments. There are both temporary and permanent hair removal methods available in market. Laser hair removal treatment is a permanent hair removal method.

Laser hair removal is a very effective surgical hair removal method. Laser treatment came into existence some 20 years back. In the beginning it was used on an experimental basis. Later it became commercially available and became popular thanks to its effectiveness. Besides being used in removing unwanted hair, laser is also used in a variety of medical cosmetic procedures including treatment of facial and leg veins and age spots.

The surgery of laser treatment involves localized damage by laser by selectively heating dark matter in the area that causes hair growth, while not heating the rest of the skin. In the treatment the energy of laser is transformed into heat that can disable hair follicles leaving the surrounding skin unchanged. This can stop the growth of hair.

Before the advent of laser hair removal treatment method electrolysis was the only long term solution of unwanted hair. However, electrolysis can be performed only on a small area of the body since in this method individual hair is treated. This method is also time-consuming.

Compared to electrolysis, laser hair removal treatment is a better and safer method since it removes unwanted hair without damaging the delicate pores and structures of the skin. Laser treatment is also a faster method and treatment on some areas of the body is completed within 45 minutes. These are the reasons why people go for permanent laser hair removal treatment.

There are no major side affects of laser hair removal treatment. Most of patients feel no problem while going through the treatment, though some might feel a mild discomfort or sting. In that case there might be the need of use of local anesthesia or pain killer on some sensitive areas. If in some cases a patient feels other side effects like blistering, soft scabbing or redness there is no need to get alarmed as these disappear within few days.
Normally a patient is told about these possible side effects before the Laser hair removal treatment. Avoiding sun exposure 2 to 4 weeks before the treatment is helpful in minimizing the risk of any possible complication after the treatment.
